World Fair of 1939-1940

Many people all dealt with the economic depression in different ways. Although the economic depression did have an impact on people, it did not stop life as it was. People continued to deal with it, some by going to the 1939-1940's World Fair. For more information on style and architecture, please feel free to visit my other group mate's pages.

This stamp shows how
important and influential the World Fair was.

The World Fair 1939-’40 was located in New York City. People came from all over the world just to view the interesting things there. It was a Fair the whole world would participate in to show off their new inventions, ideas, and contributions to society in the future. An example of this, was a phone company at the fair that allowed people to make countrywide phone calls. They had a map that showed where the call was sent to and it lighted up to signal where the conversation was directed. Germany was one of the few, who did not decide to participate in the World Fair due to the location they were put in. Meaning the spot they were allowed to stay at for the World Fair. This is a perfect example of modernism because the inventions at the 1939-1940 World Fair helped shape the future for years to come. Many people were fascinated and shocked by what they saw. The United States could share their powers with other foreign nations and have a friendly competition. Sharing these ideas would boost economic activities.
